Who We Are

myfilms is supported by the UK Film Council and funded through the National Lottery. The site is part of a major UK Film Council initiative to encourage more people to see non-mainstream films at the cinema.

The UK Film Council’s Digital Screen Network is improving access to non-mainstream films having created a network of 240 screens across the UK, whilst the Prints and Advertising Fund is using its £2 million per year to help British distributors increase awareness of these films. myfilms is also improving awareness of non-mainstream films, increasing appetites for a wider range of films and broaden viewing habits by:

  • Providing information and trailers on all new film releases screening at UK cinemas, so users can choose what to see and where to see it
  • Getting to know a user’s personal taste and recommending them non-mainstream as well as mainstream films based on their profile, and therefore helping them to discover films they may not normally have heard of or gone to see at the cinema
  • Encouraging users to:
  • rate films so we learn more about them and therefore make better recommendations
  • comment and exchange views on films with other users
  • set up their own group of film friends and connect to social networks and plug-ins, so they can share wishlists, get matches of films they all want to see, share views on films seen and plan trips to the cinema together
  • Providing free alerts to let people know when a film they want to see is on near them
  • Highlighting a different non-mainstream film every week through our Editor’s Choice
  • Featuring a range of attractive film offers and UK-wide film events
